The Sepia trio was founded in 1999 in Philadelphia. The trio plays a blend
of Jazz; aware of its bebop roots but continuing down the paths blazed
by post-bop and post-Coltrane artists.
Core
members of the trio Seth Meicht and Brendan Dougherty have been performing
together since 1997 as members of various Philadelphia Jazz groups (Jon
Madolf Quartet, Matthew Hochmiller Group). The were both members of the
Meicht Group in 2001 when it was nominated for best jazz band by the Philadelphia
City Paper.
The newest member of the trio, Akira Ando, brings to the band his experience
from playing with such jazz greats as Denis Charles, Billy Bang and William
Parker. Other members of the trio have been bassists Kevin Thaxton and
Brian Howell.
